If I could sit down with my younger self—the girl just stepping into the world of adulting, trying to find her place—I would tell her this, You Are Enough. You Are Capable. And no matter what challenges come your way, you have everything you need to succeed inside of you!
Now, as the Executive Director of the Dottie Rose Foundation, I carry that message forward to the young girls stepping into this space. My journey didn’t happen alone and neither will yours. The power of women lifting each other up is real and it’s something we must be intentional about as we navigate our careers, our dreams and our impact.
Authentic Connections Matter
Networking isn’t just about collecting contacts—it’s about finding and fostering real relationships. Surround yourself with people who will say your name in the right rooms, who will open doors for you when you’re not even in the room. And when you get there, do the same for others.
Reaching Back While Moving Forward
As we grow, we have a responsibility to reach back and pull others up with us. I have been fortunate to have mentors who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. And now, it’s my turn to be that person for the next generation. The key? Be intentional in how you build relationships. Assume best intent, show up authentically and lead with grace.
Be Brave. Take Up Space
There will be times when you’ll feel uncertain. When you’ll wonder if you belong. Here’s the truth – You do. Be bold. Speak up. Advocate for yourself and for others. And remember, “no” is not rejection—it’s just “not right now.” Keep pushing forward!
Give Yourself and Others Grace
You’re not going to have all the answers and that is okay. Leadership isn’t about perfection, it’s about growth. Give yourself grace when things don’t go as planned and extend that same grace to others. Find people who balance you out—who challenge and support you at the same time.
Listen More Than You Speak
One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that people may forget what you say, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel. Listen with intention. Lead with empathy. Build relationships that are rooted in trust and respect.
We Are Better Together
If there’s one thing I know for certain, it’s this – We are stronger when we lift each other up. Success isn’t a solo journey, it is a collective one. Let’s create opportunities, celebrate each other’s wins and show the girls behind us that they belong in the room, at the table and in the conversation.
To the young girls stepping into this world of tech, leadership and possibility – keep going! You are powerful beyond measure and we are here, cheering you on every step of the way!
