MEET DR. SHARON JONES, OUR FOUNDER

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

Sharon was great about letting me know of opportunities my daughter might enjoy after she attended her first Dottie Rose event. The organization does a great job of helping their students feel comfortable while learning and having fun! The ice cream outting downtown was also a hit!

Parent

My daughter had an awesome experience at the Dottie Rose summer camp! She had an opportunity to learn about theatre at UNC Charlotte in a class taught by college professors. She also had an opportunity to learn about robotics and coding.

Parent

My experience with Dottie Rose foundation has been amazing. I get to learn new things and do a lot of things that I didn’t think I would do, but the dottie rose has really made me think about trying new things because ever since the first time I went, they have been telling me about other events and since I had so much fun the first time I agreed so I have been coming back ever since my first time with the Dottie Rose foundation.

Parent

Thank you so much! The girls had a blast and we are going to try to get them plugged into the camp this summer. Anytime I have all 3 girls sharing how fun something was and how much they learned we don’t have much feedback.

Parent

DRF has opened both of my daughter’s eyes to all the possibilities computer science and technology has to offer – all while having a blast! I am so grateful for all the camps and events DRF puts on that introduces such a fun, new world to these girls.

Parent

Both of my daughters have attended different events and both were wanting to know when the next event was taking place.

Parent

My daughter was done with coding. she felt like she had no more interest. Luckily her aunt signed her up and she was so elated. She enjoyed the classes and doing something different with her coding skills.

“We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and will go away, but there will always be science, engineering, and technology. And there will always, always be mathematics.”

Happy Birthday to Mama D! Our founders grandmother and the legacy in which the Dottie Rose Foundation stands on. Dr. Sharon Jones spoke on her legacy while also building her own…

“As a young girl, my bond with Mama D. was unbreakable. She taught me to find magic in life’s simple moments—whether through shopping trips, garden strolls, or heartfelt conversations or her green mesh bag with all kids of learning ideas. Her words of encouragement and unwavering support made me feel I could achieve anything. Together with my parents and extended family, they nurtured my curiosity and love for learning, shaping the person I am today.

My career in education and computer science reflects this rich legacy. My passion for integrating disciplines like computer science, art, and technology stems from my childhood experiences of imagining and creating—a direct gift from the values instilled by my family. Today, through the Dottie Rose Foundation, named in Mama D.’s honor, we work to inspire young girls to discover their voices in technology and computer science.“
